Like to watch auctions on watches some are worth more than my house.Like both wrist and pocket .The bad part is I am to careless and would mess it up one up if I owned it. That is why I hardly put my watch on only weekends.Omegas Britelings and most swiss I like some of the designs on lower end watches but movement is not as good or last as long as a higer end one.

Well i am looking at these 3 watches.. I am pretty torn on what to get.

I like the classic/timeless look of the SS Rolex's, but on the other hand, got a chance to try on a few Panerai's, and they are pretty damn sick.

Id like something that holds value well, which Rolex is really good in that dept. Panerai's right now are holding value like crazy, but i worry that in the future, it may not be this way.

The good thing about Panerai is their production numbers. They make limited numbers of each model. Usually like 300-1k.

    Any thoughts?

I like the Panerai that you posted.

I almost bought a Rolex silver & gold (2 tone) Rolex a few years back. I think that it was used and that's how I know they hold value well.

Its really a tough call. I know i will likely buy one now, and the other later, just undecided which to buy first. I would really like to start out with a Rolex, a Panerai, and an IWC Portuguese to start my collection.

The rolex's are just so classic. You can wear them with anything from shorts and a t-shirt, to a suit.

I really like the Pam 292, but they are hard as hell to find.

As for the Rolex Submariner, i could also go with the LV version, limited edition.

How much do Rolex's run? Nice ass watches.

I'd probably buy me a fixer upper classic car before a 2k plus watch though lol.

The Submariner new retails at 6k, i could get one for about 4900 brand new.

The GMT IIc retails closer to 7k, and i could pull one new for closer to 5500.

The Panerai 312, would run me closer to 6500 used.

Eh.. They are not really great watches, and a bit over priced for what they are. That watch you like retails for 4k, you could get an omega, rolex, panerai, etc. for that.

    Do you like "chronograph" watches?

Omega makes some good watches for fair prices.

Rolex has a nice ladies line, plus some smaller "mens" watches that appeal to women. You can get some good deals on them too, if you look.

if youre talkin about the Gucci watches then I thought so.

I felt like we were payin for the name.

The white one my girl likes retailed for $5300 and the one I liked was around $4500.

What do you think about the Chris Aire watches?

well if you want something that holds value, go for the Rolex since rolex's are pretty much blue chip investments. They hold their value and are consistent.

Panerais aren't bad and the fact that the do make limited numbers is good and investment wise, they are great now. However, the chances of its value diminishing is far higher than the rolex in the future.

Now in terms of quality, I find most rolexes are better with better movement, but that is my opinion though.

LOL nope, that's only for dogs (bully and working stock apbt. I see no reason why bullies shouldn't be worked and conditioned and I believe bullies can exceed in sports such as schutzhund and some of the cleaner ones can certainly give working stock dogs a run at the agility course. That's the kind of bully I'm looking for and currently doing research on to see what lines can produce a bully that is bully, but clean and functional along with the drive, a working bully )

Have you seen the panerai "in house" movements?

But your thoughts are exactly, what i was thinking. Panarai is hot right now, but that doesn't tell much about the future.

I will still likely own one, just not sure it will be my first watch.

I really like those Portuguese IWC's too.

yeah I've seen the new "in house" movements. Still, it might not be enough to solidify the future. In fact, the "in house" movements were unveiled by Panerai I think 2 or 3 years ago just so they can better compete and get more fanciers. Its a good tact and that is why it is so popular right now, but let's not forget that this tact might not be enough and the future might not be as bright for Panerai. Rolex tends to have a better track record and the only reason why Panerai took off during the early 90s was because prior towards Panerai's public release, only legit Navy officers can purchase the watch. Once it became public in 93 and then slowly the public became aware of this, Panerai became the "must have" item. Then it began to fade out and hence, the new movements were unveiled 2 or 3 years ago to appeal to the watch fanciers again. If you look at Rolex however, they never needed to employ such tacts as their use of the highest quality standards alone were enough to gather them fanciers. Still, it is a tough choice lol.

Not entirely true.. Rolex has used outsourced movements as well.

But I mostly agree that Rolex is a more solid bet to still be "in" in the furre. They spend a ton on marketing and don't follow fashion trends. If you ask the average person on the street to name a luxury watch 9 out of 10 will probably say Rolex.
