Default Work out regimen ???

So ive been running the dogs every other day- mainly just Ruckus cause Chaos is a little young...

What do you feel is the appropriate age to start pushing them harder ? Weights, etc, etc.

My dogs are young- 7mo and 5 mo so we just go for walks with a slow jog 3x a week plus the daily fetch and tug of war..

During the summer months i'm in the pool every day and will get them going in too.

They love the spring pole already- is this ok to have them on it already? They arent hanging mostly just use it to tug on...

Anyway you guys have some awesome dogs here- i see the love and commitment you put into them so im asking you...

I have a regular treadmill - thinking about getting one specifically for the dogs.. any recommendations or should i just get them on the regular one?

Thank you in advance CB!

ALways wait when in doubt.
Activities that put extra load on the hips should be avoided until older.
IE - weight pull

I would also watch where you walk or run your dogs.
Avoiding pavement or other hard surfaces is hugely important
if you are working them hard at a young age -
Springpole is fine as long as they arent getting too far off the ground
or falling big distances. YOu dont want a broken leg -

I love Tug, Fetch, walking, Wrestling and some light springpole(at a low height)
for pups -

A lot of this is really dependent on the individual dog though.

thats what i was thinking.. i dont work them hard cause i know they are quite young.. we walk a block or two then jog a few then walk back home.. once home a little bit of tug and then inside and onto their beds they go where they pass out haha

they get plenty of excercise just playing together...

hind legs are still on the ground when they are on the spring pole - i didnt want them hanging at such a young age...

thanks Mega!

I agree. Also try some flirtpole action. 20 minutes a day will do wonders. It's also very cheap to make. Go to Lowes/Home depot and get 10ft pvc pipe and about 12 feet of nylon rope. Slide the rope inside the pvc pipe. Tie a knot both ends righ were the pvc ends. Make one end of the rope longer. On the longer end you can tie a couple of more knots so the pups can grab on or you can tie a toy so they can chase it.

oh yeah we do that.. Ruckus is OBSESSED with the PVC.. no rope needed.. the second you pick up a stick of it he sits and waits for the "Get it" command!!! haha

I run him in circles and he loves it...
